What inspired you to start your business? I started it when I found out I was pregnant! I wanted to create a brand that suited my niche market and also both genders! How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? This year my goal was to photography only a few days a week so I have time to spend with my little guy! What is your proudest business accomplishment? I would say to have been able to replace my salaried job I left and to have created a brand that so many people know of and talk about! Who inspires you and keeps you going when times get tough? I have a handful of amazing supportive people! Family obviously, but then a few other photographers, other business owners and Rebecca from The Sonder Circle! {I swear I didn’t pay her to say that!}

  The Knot Garden – Laura

What inspired you to start your business? I started it after having 20 years of experience in doing macramé as a hobby. When I was home with my daughter on maternity leave, I needed a creative outlet for myself as well as a way to make a little extra income. Macrame was a perfect fit! And anything that can incorporate flowers is anything plus. How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? To maintain a successful work-life balance I try to look inward and be honest with myself about how I’m feeling. I enjoy my creative process, but if I am just too overwhelmed it is very important to just step back and give myself the space to relax. I always end up being more inspired this way! What is your proudest business accomplishment? My proudest business accomplishment so far was being invited to teach macramé by one of the crafty-est establishments in one of the coolest neighborhoods here in Calgary. Who inspires you and keeps you going when things get tough? Without trying to sound too selfish here… my inspiration and drive, honestly, comes from a vision of myself, my family, and my life in the future.

Gift of Motherhood- Farah

What inspired you to start your business?  I have been interested in starting a small business for some time and since as I was months away from starting maternity leave, I decided to go ahead with this idea of an adult colouring book themed for new and expecting mothers. I thought of the idea during my second pregnancy when I was colouring another adult colouring book. I found the activity entertaining and relaxing when I was too tired or too heavy to go out. I have enjoyed every step so far of creating this product and sharing it with other moms all over the world and I look forward to doing more.
How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? Things are still quite chaotic and spontaneous most days. I have spent most of my time working late into the night. Recently, I started a schedule where  2 days in the week I leave the house and get some work done at a coffee shop while the kids are with dad. It’s a good way to be out of the house and get some me time as well.
What is your proudest business accomplishment? I’m very grateful for all the local shops in Calgary who have carried our book. One international collaboration I’m especially proud of and excited to have is with @mamasbox in Dubai. Its a monthly subscription box filled with products for new and expecting mothers and our book is currently being put in some of the boxes for moms in Dubai.
Who inspires you & keeps you going when times get tough? My  #1 inspiration are other mompreneurs. When I’m demotivated or feeling overwhelmed, I just look at other mompreneurs I follow on social media and I get my motivation and inspiration from them.

The Mother Label- Andrea

What inspired you to start your business? Before I started my company Pretty Avenue Design my dream was always to expand into as many ventures as possible! But since becoming a mother it has been a little bit more difficult to make that dream happen. There was a time when I first had Scarlett that I felt like my life was completely off balance. I had no idea what I wanted to do with my career, and I felt like I couldn’t find my identity as a mother. Being a mom comes with a lot of pressure and if you don’t have that support around you it can really get to you. But the good news: I learned how to truly embrace motherhood, and even incorporate it into my business! Which lead me to start the mother label! The Mother Label is a lifestyle brand whose mission is to help mothers create their own definition of motherhood. How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? Life can definitely get hectic especially if you have a little one. For me managing motherhood and my business is my greatest challenge. I think how I maintain a successful work-life balance is that I try to stick to these rules. I always ask for help when I need it. I always plan ahead. I always try to make me time , and finally I make my family the number one priority. What is your proudest business accomplishment? I’d have to say my proudest business accomplishment was when I decided to start my company. I had been playing with the idea for years. And it really wasn’t until I became a mother that I knew I needed to really make it happen. Who inspires you & keeps you going when times get tough? My inspiration is successful people. I really admire the strength and courage of entrepreneurs who truly have a passion and make it happen.
