Feature Friday {on a Monday} #4

Happy Long Weekend MONDAY! I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend! Now, I know these usually go out on Friday, but with the show approaching quickly I wanted to make sure everyone was showcased! Que: MAKER MONDAY! Here are 4 more of our fabulous makers!

East Of Embers – Jessica

What inspired you to start your business? I am a nurse and prior to my mat leave ending my little brother died in an accident. I knew I was not ready to return to nursing and working with death. We moved to Calgary and I started my business with no experience and it has grown more then I ever expected! How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? My son always comes first because he is a big part of why I work from home. I schedule my son to go to dayhome one day a week, so I can work in peace. Nap time hustle is real! What is your proudest business accomplishment? Providing quality clothing that didn’t come from a sweatshop makes me extremely proud! Who inspires you & keeps you going when times get tough? My son! I get to be with him every day because of this business. My husband is a huge help and supporter!

  Unrefined- Rebecca

What inspired you to start your business? I had my son and realized natural skincare should be affordable and accessible to everyone. Since then we’ve grown so much and now I’m so excited to launch our new brand! How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? Sometimes I don’t ;). But mostly I rely on my partner Thomas to share the after-work domestic “adulating”. Oh yeah, and work like crazy when my little guy naps. What is your proudest business accomplishment? My son, hands down. But when it comes to business,  would be having the confidence to take the business leap even if things aren’t always perfect on the first try! Who inspires you & keeps you going when times get tough? I’m blessed to have a family of strong women. They never back down from a challenge, they always support and encourage others and they don’t fear failure.

Silas & Ivy – Jana

What inspired you to start your business? I started making jewelry as a creative outlet while finishing up the end of my business studies. I was doing my accounting designation and thought ‘why not?’ I made them for friends and family. I got addicted to Etsy and was buying supplies for necklaces and bracelets and decided to go for it. How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? I work part time as an accountant and try to do jewelry design during naps times and on my ‘Friday off’. I also sneak some time in at night. What is your proudest business accomplishment? Seeing or hearing about others wearing my designs. Who inspires you & keeps you going when times get tough? Remembering the markets and face to face with my customers. My family is very encouraging too and offer to help when I’m stressed or have a brain blank.

Prairie Mountain Co – Erika

What inspired you to start your business? In November 2016, my friend Katrina and I founded Prairie Mountain and Co. We had been talking for over a year about all the cool things we wanted to make for babies and toddlers after having our kids. Finally, we decided to jump in head first and haven’t looked back! How do you maintain a successful work-life balance? This has been really tough the past few months as we have been trying to build an inventory from nothing. We have days on end preparing for shows where we don’t leave our sewing rooms but we always make sure to take breaks afterwards. What is your proudest business accomplishment? It has definitely been strangers coming up to us at shows to tell us that we are the reason they came. We started this business thinking it would be a great addition to our town of 1200 people never anticipating that in just a few months we would be sending orders all over North America! Who inspires you & keeps you going when times get tough? Our friends and family are great and help with our kids so that we can follow this dream and grow our business. At the end of the day though, we are each other’s biggest support and neither of us could do this without the other
